An Extreme Adventure Experience!

This tour is designed not only to provide maximum fun but also to give our guests a lifetime experience of Belize’s historical and natural wonders!

At the beginning of the tour & before leaving the parking lot there is a safety briefing and all equipment will be checked to ensure safety.  Safety information with regards to kayaking, the use of all equipment, and the characteristics of the river is discussed before doing the tour.  At the entrance of the cave, the guide(s) give a brief history of the ancient Maya, as well as facts pertaining to the use of caves and the geology of the area you are about to enter. While kayaking in the river, the guides alternate in front, middle and back of the group for safety. During this tour you have a high chance of seeing some wildlife’s creatures such as tarantula spiders, howler monkeys and different species of birds.There are a series of rapids just inside the cave. When you exit each cave, you will have the chance to see the jungle canopy that surrounds the area and river. 

LUNCH:

This will consist of a buffet styled- “Do-It-Yourself-Burrito with homemade flour tortillas, tomatoes, cabbage, onions, cucumber, carrots, cheese, sliced boneless ham, pastrami and condiments such as mustard, mayonnaise and Belizean famous-“Marie Sharp’s” hot sauce. For those guests who are vegetarians (Kindly specify in advance), you can simply skip the meats. Burritos are delicious with just the veggies!

PORTAGE:

At this point, you will be getting out of the river and getting into another entrance-where you will get back into the cave. This river basically goes underground and under the mountain, leaving no way to get past this point- so the hike is necessary in order to continue the tour.  After the 200 yards portage you have two more caves to go through. And also some open river kayaking enjoying the scenic view as we go along.

Time of exit is estimated at around 1:30-2:00pm. The departure from the parking area is approx 2:30pm.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Participants MUST have an excellent level of physical fitness and should be able to tolerate dark caves and should be able to swim with all safety gear on (especially P.F.D & Helmet.)

**Heavy rains & flooding of the river will cause us to cancel this tour. We can then offer an alternative of the Crystal Cave Expedition in this case since the alternative cave is a dry cave and is therefore unaffected by flooding.

VICTORIA PEAK 4 DAYS EXPEDITION CHALLENGE ON APRIL 13TH 2015!! SIGN UP FOR THE ADVENTURE!

Belize is full of adventure, mystery and suspense. Amongst the dozens and dozens of activities and fun things to do, Belize can also play host to enthusiastic climbers- ready to summit the country's 2nd tallest but only accessible mountain. Although in recent years, another mountain has been named the tallest point (Doyles Delight), Victoria Peak has long been the backdrop to southern Belize's landscape and giving a beautiful silhouette image from Hopkins, Sittee River and offshore cayes. 

During the yearly dry season in Belize, which runs from February to June, Victoria Peak is open to expeditions of adventurers wanting to get to the top. 

 The treks up to the summit are offered by Maya Guide Adventures for ONLY $750 US pp-min of 5. We choose the dry season to do Victoria Peak because it is the best time in terms of rain and visibility.

This expedition is definitely going to challenge the limits of your physical abilities! It is a 4 days strenuous hike up and down hill.

Victoria Peak Summit!!

 We start hiking from Cockscomb visitors center to km 19  where we camp to start fresh the following day. The jungle is incredibly vibrant and lush in this part with mature forest and massive tropical hardwood, we also cross various streams with fresh water before km 19. The second day is the most challenging but at the same time the most rewarding because we hike strenuously and continuously all the way to the Top of Victoria Peak! Most of the way to the top is about 60 degrees or more incline up. Finally, we hike for 2 more days back to Cockscomb headquarters. 

We provide Hennessy Hammocks for camping but if you feel more comfortable using your one that is just fine. We provide all the necessary climbing​ gears and water purification.

The base for Maya Guide Adventures is Yax'che Jungle Camp, located on mile 42 Hummingbird Highway on the foothills of the Maya Mountains and 20 minutes from Belmopan (Belize’s Capital). The cruise terminal is approximately 1 hour from our put in point for the cave kayaking, therefore, we advise our cruise ship guests to take the earliest possible tender to port where we will be waiting for you outside the main terminal. Kindly note that passengers who have booked directly through the cruise are usually sent on first tenders, hence the reason why we advise you to take the earliest possible tender so we can have enough time without having to rush the tour. Cave Kayaking in Belize with the Kayaking Experts

A whole New World of Adventure!

This kayaking tour is designed to offer its participants a maximum adventure experience! At the beginning of the tour all equipment will be checked for Safety purposes. Safety information for kayaking, the use of all equipment, and the characteristics of river will be discussed. Any questions and/or concerns will also be open for discussion and answered. Once completed everyone is to prepare themselves with the proper gear which should take about 5 to 10 minutes. At the entrance of the cave, your guide(s) will brief you on the history of the ancient Maya, as well as facts pertaining to the use of caves and the geology of the area you are about to enter.

There are a series of rapids just inside the cave. When you exit each cave, you will have the chance to see the jungle canopy that surrounds the area and river.   On the river, the guides alternate in front, middle and back of the group.  You may see some wild life such as Tarantula spiders, howler monkeys and lot of birds. We will stop for lunch at about the 5^th exit of the cave.  This is the guide/s favorite lunch spot which features a magnificent view of the jungle hillside and this creates a spectacular swimming area with 10 foot crystal blue water.

Portage:

After lunch there is 15 minute hike through the Jungle. At this point, you will be getting out of the river and hiking through the jungle to another entrance-where you will get back into the river. This river basically goes underground and under the mountain, leaving no way to get past this point- so the hike is necessary in order to continue the tour.  This second river entrance is what we consider to be the Half Way point along the trip as there are 5 more caves to go through and more rapids to traverse.  The guide/s will need assistance from the guests in order to carry the gear and equipment/kayaks & paddles and you are welcome to take the light loads so that the guides can back the heavier items.  

Time of exit is estimated at around 2-2:30pm. You will hike back to the parking lot –approx. 5 minutes. Ready to leave the parking area at approx 3:00pm.

Physical Requirements:

Cancellation of Tour: Heavy mountain rains can produce flooding that will force us to cancel the tour. If during the trip itself, heavy rains are experienced, the guide may make the decision to call off the tour for safety reasons. It should be noted that at all times, your guide/s have your safety and well being in mind, and will be forced to make decisions that will keep you safe!

Special Note: ALL guides are certified as Wilderness First Responder medics, and are certified in Flood & Swift Water Rescue. Your guides are proud members of the Belize Disaster And Rescue Response Team known also as BDARRT. BDARRT is affiliated with Belize’s-National Emergency Management Organization- NEMO and has participated in response efforts in Belize & neighboring Mexico (after Hurricane Wilma). BDARRT is currently the training company for the Belize Tourist Board- Certified Tour Guides that take guests into popular natural caves such as this one and who offer tours to resort guests, private groups, cruise ship passengers and locals alike.

Chiquibul- The longest and most Unique Cave System in Belize!

Among the many wonders of Belize is the Chiquibul National Park- Belize's largest park. The park is located in the Cayo district of Belize and is roughly 414 sq miles in size. Although the ruins of Caracol are located within the park perimeters, the size  of the park does not include the ruins site itself. Caracol is a designated archaeological reserve making it a park within a park. 

The park was established in 1956 and was originally part of the Chiquibul Forest Reserve. in 1991, the three-quarters of the forest reserve that did not have active logging concessions was re-designated as a national park under Belize's National Parks System Act. in 1995, the park's borders were  re-defined . The ruins of Caracol became surrounded by the national park.

The western side of the park lies along Belize's border with Guatemala. The park lies west of the Maya Mountains. The park's landscape includes south the Vaca Plateau. Doyles Delight- the new highest mountain in Belize, is located within the confines of the park. The park is located on a layer of Limestone Strata- the largest area of protected Karst in Belize. In this vast park, can be found portions of the Chiquibul Cave System- the longest known cave system in Central America. The cave system is made up of caves linked by water flows, including the Chiquibul River which flows through Belize and goes underground into the cave system which then resurfaces in Guatemala. The cave system includes the largest known underground passages known as the Kabul Sand Passage- discovered in the Western Hemisphere.

 The wonders of Chiquibul are unequal to any found in Belize. The vast rainforest canopy covers nearly every inch of the park, which lies bording Guatemala. The dangers of the park are many and among them are the existing Xateros- Guatemala farmers who come across the border in search of the precious Xate leaves- used in the floral industry. These farmers have been known to be agressive and have put in peril the Belizean raiinforest -slashing, burner and cutting vast areas of the forest in search of the leaves. 

Friends of Conservation & Development manager the park and provide ranger services as well as a security presence to various expedition outfits such as XMET- the Xibalba Mapping & Expedition Team that visit Belize each year to conduct continuing cave mapping projects throughout the forest and mountain areas of central Belize.
